Since 2003, CEITC has undertaken a number of Indigenous Tobacco Control projects, including:

1. Talkin’ Up Good Air: Australian Indigenous Tobacco Control Resource Kit
This resource kit was developed specifically for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.  It provides helpful information, ideas, activities, success stories, and reference materials.  The kit is intended to assist health professionals, educators and community workers to promote tobacco control in Indigenous communities.

To read more about this resource or obtain a copy visit www.ceitc.org.au/talkinupgoodair.

2. Indigenous Tobacco Control Research Scoping project
CEITC is conducting a review of evidence relating to tobacco consumption by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people which will look at relevant literature, communications strategies, existing interventions and workforce capacity.  The review will  identify what further research needs to be undertaken to understand the determinants of tobacco consumption, enablers of use, and the barriers to quitting.

To read more about this project visit www.ceitc.org.au/Indigenous_Tobacco_Control_Scoping_Project.

3. National Indigenous Tobacco Control Research Network
CEITC held a National Indigenous Tobacco Control Researchers Meeting both in 2007 and 2008 which gathered together leading Researchers, Government and Non-Government Organisations, health professionals and Community representatives to discuss Indigenous tobacco control research priorities. CEITC intends to form a research working group which can continue to progress the priorities identified at these meetings and will continue to hold annual meetings.

4. Indigenous Tobacco Control Website and Community of Practice
CEITC ‘s website is an important resource for Indigenous tobacco control and contains information, publications and links specific to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. It is the main contact point for the CEITC Community of Practice network which includes Indigenous Tobacco Control Interest Groups.
