Background

Angela Clarke is a Gunditjmara Woman, whose spirit country and traditional homeland is the Western District of Victoria. Angela’s position at Onemda is the Lecturer in Community Development and is also the Community Development Worker. Angela has previously worked at the Royal Children’s Hospital where she still maintains strong links and is currently the Aboriginal Programs Manager. Angela completed a Master in Public Health in 2004 and has a BA in Community Development. Angela brings to the Unit considerable experience in Koori health program development having received the Inaugural Victorian Public Health Award for Excellence in 1997 and commendations from the Public Services Commissioner for improving access at the RCH for Aboriginal families and managing diversity in the workplace by developing cross-cultural resources for staff training. Angela was also awarded a study tour scholarship from the RCH to travel to the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Finland, a trip undertaken in 1996. Angela has served her community as a board member of several Aboriginal organisations including the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service and is currently the Chairperson of the Koorie Heritage Trust.
